1. La Paz - Huatajata - Copacabana – bays of Sicuani and Titicachi - Chañi - Sampaya - Copacabana
At 06h30, briefing on the tour during which each participant will receive their personal equipment (thermal suit, gloves and hat). We then leave with a private vehicle towards Copacabana, on the shores of the Lake Titicaca. On our way we visit the Aymara community Huatajata where we visit the totora (Schoenoplectus californicus ssp. totora is a subspecies of the giant bulrush sedge) museum and we have the opportunity to taste the edible buds and roots of the totora1*. We arrive in Copacabana around 10h00 and after leaving our luggage at the hotel and while the material is being prepared you have about an hour to visit Copacabana, particularly interesting is the beautiful basilica of "Nuestra Señora de Copacabana", hosting the famous sculpture " Virgen de la Candelaria "," Reina "of Bolivia, carved in 1580 by the artist Quechua Francisco Yupanqui, nephew of the Inca Tupac Yupanqui. At 11h00 we leave from the port of Copacabana by Totora boat to the Sicuani bay. On the way we visit the “Boca del Sapo” (place of pilgrimage and prayer). From the Sicuani bay we sail by kayak to the Titicachi bay. We then continue by motorboat to one of the floating islands of Chañi, another small Aymara community, where we visit the trout farms built around rafts of Totora. In this colourful environment lunch, based on freshly caught trout and prepared in front of us, is served. After lunch, while our boat returns to Copacabana, we continue by car to the small village Sampaya, a historic village known as the “Ciudad de Piedras”. With its pre-Inca and Inca ruins, Sampaya is a beautiful stone village from where we have a panoramic view over the Lake Titicaca and Coati (Moon Island). We visit the community, its old restored church2* and we walk to the “camino precolombino” (pre-Colombian path). You then have time to linger in the narrow streets lined with the legendary “kantuta” (Cantua buxifolia – of the Polemoniaceae family), the “sacred flower of the Incas”, represented by several varieties of colours. It is also the national flower of both Bolivia and Peru and was once used to decorate the heads of the dead to accompany them on their journey after death. Our car takes us back to Copacabana where we assist at a second briefing and the rest of the evening is free.

2. Copacabana - Sun Island (Isla del Sol) – La Paz
